ABOUT ME
I am a freelance technical designer/consultant working in Manhattan’s garment district. Currently I am also a consultant for Cotton Incorporated’s CottonWorks program as one of their knitting experts providing educational instruction for industry professionals.
My expertise are in knitwear and have worked in positions spanning from high end to mass production knits and sweaters. I also obtain unique experience working in factory environments due to my work at Stoll America, Santoni Shanghai Knitting Machinery and Keff NYC. Within those companies, I was responsible for everything under the umbrella for in-house product development and in-house domestic production and jumping in where I was needed on the factory line. My duties included providing pattern making, grading/tech design, creating artwork files, QC, production costing for my clients and making sure everything was done correctly and shipped on time.
One quality that stands out is my ability to communicate with the technicians and programmers on flatbed (full fashioned) and circular (cut and sew) knitting machines. I understand knit structures and can create BMP files that can be easily translated into the program. This cuts the programmers time and they can then efficiently create a program with less trial and error. Which then can cut down on development costs for the company.
Because of my expertise in garment construction from factory standpoints plus my technical design background, I can be the bridge between knowledge of knitting machine capabilities and construction and technical design. I understand the language needed to work with such factories.
